Chickerell Community Library is managed by local volunteers with support from Dorset County Council and Chickerell Town Council. We took over the running of the library in January 2013 when it would otherwise have had to close as part of the funding cuts carried out by Dorset County Council. More volunteers are always welcome.
We have everything you would expect to find in a local library, you can borrow books on a wide range of subjects from current fiction to information on local history and wild life of Chickerell and its surrounding area. We have large print books and an extensive children’s section and talking books, CDs, and DVDs can be ordered on line from Libraries West which Dorset Library Service has joined to form a consortium with other neighbouring authorities. As an extra service, run by one of our volunteers, there is a jigsaw library with notebooks for signing the jigsaws in and out. We only ask for donations for this service, there is no actual charge.
We have two public use computers and a printer and free Wi-Fi is available.
Please come and enjoy the beautiful Peto Garden that surrounds the library. There are seats, flower borders and a lawn where friends can chat, children can play or people can have a picnic or just sit in the sunshine peacefully to read and relax. It is maintained by Chickerell Town Council supported by a group of volunteers who do sterling work to keep it looking good. Please respect it and use the rubbish bin provided for your rubbish.
Please come and visit us; you will find us a friendly helpful group anxious to help our community and, of course, its library.
